Lighting the Way. CWR Contracting's Groundbreaking Bioluminescent Multi-Use Path in Okaloosa County

CWR Contracting has embarked on an innovative project: a 4-mile multi-use path featuring bioluminescent technology in Okaloosa County. It is the first of its kind in Florida. The pathway will connect Brooks Bridge and Marler Bridge, providing users with a unique and safe experience that literally lights the way.

Public Works Director Jason Autrey described the technology behind the surface. "It's really a glow-in-the-dark rock. They'll put the asphalt down, throw this rock on top, spread it out, and when they roll it, it embeds in the top." The bioluminescent feature enhances nighttime visibility, supports safety, and adds a distinctive character to evening walks and rides.

Construction involves extensive work within the existing right of way. The CWR team is undertaking clearing, drainage improvements, earthwork, grading, asphalt paving, seeding, and sodding. This comprehensive approach delivers both a striking pathway and meaningful improvements to the surrounding infrastructure.
