CWR Contracting Wins Top National Award for Quality in Asphalt Paving

CWR Contracting has been recognized for its commitment to excellence in the construction of asphalt pavement. The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) awarded CWR the prestigious 2023 Larry H. Lemon Quality in Construction Award for its work on SE 73rd Avenue in Marion County, Florida. This award underscores CWR's dedication to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects while employing sustainable paving practices.

The Larry H. Lemon Quality in Construction Award is presented to the top ten highest-scoring projects submitted for a Quality in Construction (QIC) Award in the General Paving category. An independent pavement engineer rigorously evaluates each project based on how well the contractor adhered to specifications and achieved pavement density.

The award is named in honor of Larry Lemon of Haskell Lemon Construction in Oklahoma City, a distinguished figure who played a pivotal role in the NAPA Awards Committee for 18 years. Lemon's contribution to the association's Board of Directors and his instrumental role in creating the rating system for the Quality in Construction Awards exemplify his commitment to advancing the industry.

CWR's award-winning project on SE 73rd Avenue involved leveling and overlaying existing pavement with FC 9.5 asphalt mix, resulting in a smooth riding surface that reduced hydroplaning, splash and spray, headlight glare, and noise. The project incorporated reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), a sustainable practice that conserves virgin materials and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
