CWR Contracting, Inc. (CWR) Tallahassee and Hosford teams were awarded the Quality in Construction Award for its SR 57 (US 19) contract in Jefferson County, Florida. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) selected and submitted this project to The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) for recognition of excellence within asphalt pavements.
Roads are the arteries that enable circulation throughout the community. This route was in need of improvements that would alleviate congestion and improve motorist safety; while also showcasing the beautiful and rural character of Jefferson County.
“Our teams did a great job performing and executing this contract and we are honored to build a safe, long-lasting, and reliable road” said Jimmy Strain, company vice president. “This project required a high polymer asphalt mix design. At the time, it was a newer product and mix specification. We recycled existing road material and our asphalt plant worked closely with FDOT on meeting mix specifications and producing the highest quality of material”.
Improvements under this contract included milling and resurfacing (8+ miles), paving, signing and pavement markings, drainage improvements, sidewalk construction, median/turn lane construction, guardrail on existing bridges, and high mast lighting construction.
